You’ve probably heard this phrase once or twice in your life before, and if you are currently pregnant, people probably love to tell you exactly what you should be eating and what you shouldn’t. While I am not a medical professional, I am a newly pregnant first-time mom who I trying to make sense of all the information out there about how to take care of myself and my baby.

If you’re like me, the amount of information that is out there is so overwhelming and seems to often be very contradictory. But I have found a balance for myself between the overly worried about each thing I ingest, to not paying attention to that at all. I have found, that healthy eating during pregnancy is very similar to healthy eating when you’re not pregnant. Whole foods, such as fruits and vegetables are jammed packed with vitamins and nutrients, and eating small meals often can help some women curb some of their morning sickness symptoms.

For me, I have to eat fairly regularly, and I feel much better when I eat baked foods as opposed to things that are fried. I also make sure I get plenty of water by carrying a reusable water bottle with me and filling it up when I can. That said, I personally have dealt with constant nausea and morning sickness, which at times makes eating those veggies and healthy foods a bit more of a struggle. The first few weeks after I found out I was pregnant, I lived off of bagels and soup. And I am here to tell you that it’s OK!

We all do the best we can, and sometimes, like in my case, that means nibbling on a bagel. Now, I am able to get some fruits and veggies in, along with protein from chicken, so I am on cloud 9! All in all, I want to encourage you to research for yourself, consult with your physician, and make the best choices you can as you grow that little one!
