Words from the heart of Michelle….

It hasn’t been quite two weeks since I turned on my television to what I thought was a playback or old news footage.  When I realized that the White Power Rally in Charlottesville, VA was happening live, I was in disbelief.

As a Christian, wife, mother, and human being, it is my responsibility to stand up against prejudice and extremism.  What happened the weekend of August 12, 2017 was despicable.  While watching the live news coverage, I kept seeing actual torches and Nazi flags.  So many swastikas, the horrid symbols that my grandfather earned a purple heart fighting against.  I was sick to my stomach.  I looked at my children and thought to myself, “I don’t even know how to explain to them that hate like this exists in the world.”  We live in a transient military community.  We literally live amongst people from all around the world.  Whether it is at school, at the park, or in kid’s church, my children play amongst all the other children, regardless of the color of their skin or their accent.  They only see playmates.  As children grow, they need parents, teachers, and anyone who instills value in them to exhibit values that develop their best selves.

One of my favorite childhood songs is “Jesus Loves the Little Children”  A line in the song says, “Red and Yellow, Black and White, all are precious in his sight.”  ALL are precious in his sight; No matter your race, whether you’re male or female, at the beginning of conception or at the end of life…..YOU MATTER!

Here at Hope First we take what Michelle said seriously.  We love all life and we believe everyone is put here for a reason.  You might be facing an unplanned pregnancy and contemplating what you should do.
